What does NR mean?

NR means “Not Reported.” Union Bank of India remains a participating bank, but no State/UT or category vacancy figures were reported for it in this notification. NR must not be treated as zero vacancies.

Bank total does not replace your State vacancy table

Recruitment is conducted State/UT-wise. A bank’s national total may include vacancies in several regions, but candidates compete for the State/UT chosen in their own application.

Bank preference decision

Review the banks available in your chosen State before setting preferences

The application form requires an order of preference for participating banks. The notification states that no later request to change this preference order will be entertained. Set the order only after reviewing your chosen State’s bank-wise vacancy distribution.

Irrevocable application decision

How to Choose Your IBPS Clerk State or UT

Do not select a State only because it has the highest vacancy total. Confirm the category vacancies, local language, bank distribution and your supporting records before entering the State/UT in the application.

You can apply for only one State/UT

The selected vacancy State/UT is irrevocable and is listed by IBPS among the protected application fields that cannot be edited later. Check it carefully before completing registration.

01

Check your category vacancies

Compare the vacancies reported for your applicable category, not only the overall State total.

Review SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS or UR figures.
Confirm that your category claim is supported by valid evidence.
Start with your category
02

Confirm the local language

You should be proficient in reading, writing, speaking and understanding one specified language for the chosen State/UT.

Check the Annexure III language list.
Select one applicable language in the form.
LLPT requirement
03

Check your language proof

A Class 10 or higher marksheet or certificate showing that you studied the selected language may exempt you from the LLPT.

Verify that the language appears in your academic record.
Keep the original proof ready for verification.
Document-based exemption
04

Review bank-wise distribution

See which participating banks have reported vacancies in the chosen State before arranging your bank preferences.

A bank’s national total may not reflect your State.
The bank preference order cannot later be changed.
Preference planning
05

Understand the allotment scope

You are considered for the State/UT selected in the application, even if IBPS assigns an examination centre outside that State.

Exam-centre reallocation does not change vacancy State.
Provisional allotment remains State/UT based.
Exam centre ≠ vacancy State
06

Treat vacancy figures as indicative

Annexure I shows anticipated vacancies. Actual provisional allotment will depend on vacancies eventually reported by banks.

Reported figures may increase, decrease or remain unfilled.
Some figures may include backlog vacancies.
Not a final allotment promise

How the Local Language Proficiency Test affects your choice

Language eligibility should be checked before vacancy count because failure to meet the language requirement can stop appointment even after the Main Examination and provisional allotment stages.

At application Select one specified local language

Choose from the official language list applicable to the selected State or Union Territory.

Exemption route Class 10 or higher language proof

Candidates who studied the selected language and can produce the required record are not required to take the LLPT.

Without proof Qualifying LLPT before joining

The test is qualifying in nature. Failure to qualify means the candidate will not be offered appointment.

The State with the most vacancies is not automatically the best option

A larger total does not reveal your category share, language eligibility, number of applicants, likely cut-off or eventual actual vacancies. The official notification does not provide applicant counts or predict State-wise competition, so those claims should not be inferred from the vacancy table alone.

Final State/UT selection checklist

Confirm every item before saving the vacancy State/UT in the online application.

I checked the vacancies for my applicable category.
I can meet the selected local-language requirement.
I reviewed the banks reporting vacancies in this State.
I understand that this State/UT choice cannot be edited later.
Complete the decision carefully

Vacancy answers and next steps

IBPS Clerk Vacancy 2026 FAQs

Use these concise answers to understand the official vacancy totals, State/UT selection rules, bank reporting and provisional allotment conditions before applying.

Frequently asked vacancy questions

How many IBPS Clerk vacancies are there in 2026?

Annexure I contains 11,403 indicative vacancies after adding all 36 State/UT total rows. This includes 4,740 UR, 2,815 OBC-NCL, 1,910 SC, 942 ST and 996 EWS vacancies.

Which State has the highest IBPS Clerk vacancies?

Uttar Pradesh has the highest reported total with 1,731 vacancies, followed by Karnataka with 1,414 and Maharashtra with 1,051.

Which bank has reported the highest number of vacancies?

Canara Bank has reported 2,500 vacancies, followed by Punjab National Bank with 2,016 and Indian Bank with 1,700.

Are the IBPS Clerk vacancy figures final?

No. IBPS describes the figures as indicative and anticipated. Actual provisional allotment will depend on vacancies later reported by participating banks.

Can I apply for vacancies in two States?

No. A candidate may apply for vacancies in only one State or Union Territory. The vacancy State/UT selected in the form is irrevocable and cannot be edited later.

What does NR mean in the vacancy table?

NR means Not Reported. Union Bank of India is listed as a participating bank, but its State/UT vacancy figures are marked NR in Annexure I. NR should not be interpreted as confirmed zero vacancies.

Do vacancy totals include PwBD and ex-servicemen reservations?

Annexure I separately displays “out of which” figures for HI, OC, VI, ID, ESM and DESM. These are included within the relevant vertical category totals and should not be added again to calculate the overall vacancy total.

Does the State with more vacancies have lower competition?

The notification does not publish State-wise applicant numbers or expected cut-offs. A larger vacancy total alone cannot prove lower competition. Category vacancies, local language and eventual applicant volume also matter.
