SSC CGL 2026 Eligibility, Qualification & Age Limit

Major Category Relaxations
Some Posts Need More Than Graduation
Bachelor’s degree in any subject with at least 60% marks in Mathematics at Class 12 level, or Statistics as a subject at degree level.
Degree in specified statistical, mathematical, economic, demographic, technology, computer or related disciplines.
Bachelor’s degree is essential. Certain finance, commerce, accounting or professional qualifications are listed as desirable.
Some posts also require proficiency in the relevant State’s regional or official language.
Appearing Candidates Could Apply, Subject to the Cut-Off Date
Candidates appearing in the final year of graduation could submit an application, but they must possess the required qualification by 1 August 2026. Mere processing of a university result is not enough; the result must have been officially declared by the prescribed date.
Some Inspector, Sub-Inspector, CBN, NCB, CBI, NIA and BRO-related posts carry physical, medical or other specific standards. If a candidate receives a post preference but later fails its required standards, the candidature may be rejected without allocation to another post.
SSC CGL 2026 Tier-I, Tier-II & Final Selection
SSC CGL 2026 is conducted through two Computer Based Examination tiers. Tier-I is used for shortlisting, while final merit and post allocation depend mainly on Tier-II performance, qualifying standards and submitted post preferences.
Tier-I Examination
Candidates appear in an objective Computer Based Examination covering reasoning, general awareness, quantitative aptitude and English comprehension.
Tier-II Examination
Paper-I is compulsory for all shortlisted candidates. Additional papers apply only to candidates shortlisted for specified statistical and audit/accounts posts.
Online Option Form
Candidates submit final post and department preferences. Options become final after submission and directly affect post allocation.

DEST Is Mandatory but Qualifying
DEST consists of approximately 2,000 key depressions in 15 minutes. Higher qualifying standards apply to certain posts, including specified tax, postal, assistant and inspector positions.
Tier-I Shortlists Candidates; Tier-II Drives Final Selection
Final selection is based on overall Tier-II performance and the final post preferences submitted by the candidate. Preferences are treated as final and irreversible after submission.
Post-preference warning: A candidate who receives a preferred post but fails its physical, medical, educational or skill requirements may lose candidature and may not be shifted automatically to another post.
How SSC CGL 2026 Applications Were Submitted

Online Application and Correction Windows Are Closed
Candidates cannot submit a new SSC CGL 2026 application now. Existing applicants should preserve their application copy, payment record and registration details for later stages.
Complete SSC One-Time Registration
Candidates without an OTR on the new SSC website had to create one before filling the examination form. OTR created on the old SSC website was not valid.
Fill Personal and Educational Information
Applicants entered personal details, communication information, educational qualifications, category claims, examination-centre preferences and other required information.
Capture Photograph Through the Application Module
Candidates were not required to upload a pre-existing photograph. The application module captured a live frontal photograph using the device camera.
